Norwegian Experience in Minority Integration: A Seminar for Bulgarian Municipalities

In an inspiring initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity, a two-day seminar recently took place in Bulgaria, focusing on the integration of minorities, particularly the Roma community. This event was organized by our chamber in Norway, which is partnering on a significant project to share best practices and effective strategies for minority integration with the municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino, and Bolyarovo.

The seminar was part of the project titled “Implementation of Integrated Measures in Support of Vulnerable Groups in the Municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino, and Bolyarovo.” This initiative is funded by the EEA and Norway Grants, emphasizing the commitment to enhancing social inclusion and equality.

A highlight of the seminar was the presence of Mrs. Guro Katharina H. Vikør, the former Ambassador of Norway to Bulgaria, who was our guest of honor. Her experience and insights on minority integration in Norway provided valuable context for the discussions.

Additionally, Mr. Anders Stølan, our Chairman, delivered professional inputs in community development and integration practices presenting successful methodologies from Norway.

Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on various approaches to support vulnerable groups, sharing experiences and strategies that have proven effective in Norway. The exchange of ideas is crucial for creating tailored solutions that address the challenges faced by the Roma community in Bulgaria.

By leveraging successful practices from Norway, the municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino, and Bolyarovo are better equipped to implement effective measures that promote integration and support minority groups.

As the project progresses, we look forward to seeing the positive impact of these initiatives and the continued collaboration between our two countries.
