Study Visit in Norway: Empowering Vulnerable Groups

Our team organized an exciting study visit to Norway, part of the project “Implementation of Integrated Measures for Support of Vulnerable Groups in the Municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino, and Bolyarovo.” Funded under the EEA and Norway Grants, this initiative aims to enhance the empowerment and inclusion of minorities in both social and working life.

The workshop commenced at the Nesodden municipality, where we were honored to have the official opening led by Mayor Cathrine Kjenner Forsland. Her welcoming remarks set a positive tone for the visit, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared learning in addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable groups.

As a key partner in this project, our responsibility is to share effective practices from Norway that can be implemented in the participating Bulgarian municipalities. The focus is on strategies that promote the empowerment of minorities, enabling them to thrive in various aspects of life.

We were fortunate to hear from an impressive lineup of speakers who brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the workshop:

  • Mrs. Guro Katharine H. Vikør, former Ambassador of Norway to Bulgaria, who shared insights into successful integration initiatives.
  • Mr. Jørgen Lorentzen, a representative from Nesodden’s Board of the Municipality, provided valuable perspectives on local governance and community involvement.
  • Ms. Aasne Abrahamsen, a former teacher at the “Introduction Programme,” discussed educational strategies for fostering inclusivity.
  • Ms. Hege J. Emilsen, Executive Director of Frivilligsentralen, highlighted the role of volunteer organizations in supporting vulnerable groups.

Their contributions sparked engaging discussions and provided practical ideas for our ongoing efforts.

This study visit marks an important step in our mission to empower minorities and promote their inclusion in everyday life. The exchange of experiences and knowledge between Norway and Bulgaria is vital for developing tailored solutions that meet the needs of vulnerable communities.

We extend our gratitude to all the speakers and participants for making the workshop a success. As we continue our journey, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the positive impact this project will have on the municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino, and Bolyarovo.
